WebJan 1, 2016 · No problem making a black shellac. You just need the black powder stain that is alcohol soluble. Mix the powder stain with alcohol as directed, then add to shellac as needed. I'm not sure if it will end up opaque, wood grain may still show. To make totally black with no wood grain showing, I'd suggest spraying a black lacquer or enamel paint.
