WebJul 29, 2015 · In 1834, at the age of 27, Phebe W. Carter joined the Mormon Church. She was the only member of her family to embrace the gospel at the time. Like many new converts, she felt compelled to leave her home [Maine] and settle with the Saints in Kirtland. However, her parents were firmly against her decision to do so. In Phebe’s own words she said,
